What is the difference between Dualtron X2 and Dualtron Thunder 2?
Dualtron has become a leading brand when it comes to electric scooters, known for their superior performance and cutting-edge technology. Within its impressive lineup, two models stand out: the Dualtron X2 and the Dualtron Thunder 2. While both scooters offer an exhilarating ride and high-end features, there are distinct differences between them. Understanding these differences is crucial for potential buyers seeking the best fit for their riding preferences and requirements.
Dualtron Thunder 2
Dualtron Thunder 2 will hit the market by the end of 2021. In fact, the Dualtron Thunder was one of Minimotors' most successful scooters ever - mostly because it was a well-built, high-spec scooter for its time.
The Dualtron Thunder 2 will retain its original Thunder look. So Dualtron tweaked the Thunder 1 by upgrading certain aspects and adding new features.
Motor
The motors on the Dualtron Thunder 2 will be even more powerful, with a combined peak output of 10,080w, or 5040w per motor.
Battery
The Thunder 2 also comes with a larger battery (21700 over 18650) and LG's larger 40ah battery. The huge 72V 40Ah 2880Wh battery will provide more range than most people will ever need.
Range
Dualtron Thunder 2 has a maximum range of 107 miles, mileage may vary based on rider weight and road conditions.
The Thunder 2 also has other smart and innovative improvements, such as a new rear fender that doubles as a handlebar, which is welcome considering most people who own the original Thunder had to buy aftermarket rear footrests/handles.
Another nice introduction and a meaningful one is that the Thunder 2 finally has indicators - one of the quirks of the original Thunder was that it had an orange LED that only served as a hazard/brake rather than a function indicator.
This is the Dualtron Thunder 2 we are selling.
Dualtron X2
The X2 is a genuine upgrade over its predecessor, the Dualtron X model produced in 2019. Like almost every other electric scooter, the X2 is fully foldable. With the latest Dualtron custom handlebars, you can fold them and the stem to save even more space.
Motor
The Dualtron X2 features dual BLDC hub motors, one integrated in each wheel. Together, they have an astounding 4150 watts of real power, up to 8300 watts of peak power.
Range
The Dualtron X2 has a range of 93 miles/150 kilometers. That makes it the longest-range electric scooter ever.
Battery and Charging
The dual battery is one of the most innovative engineering decisions in the Dualtron X2. The scooter has a 72V 42Ah LG main battery that powers the motor. On the other hand, a secondary 11V 14 Ah Li-ion battery powers the LED lights and other accessories. This balances performance and saves the capacity of the main battery, only for the scooter's range.
In addition, this reduces the charging time of the scooter, which usually takes about 8 hours to fully charge using a fast charger.
Dualtron X2 and Dualtron Thunder 2
These two models may be the most bittersweet of all Dualtron scooters. Dualtron enthusiasts raged over which one was the better choice, and there was no clear answer.
The difference between the two is not small, but not that great either. In contrast, each has advantages and disadvantages.
Dualtron Thunder 2 Advantage
One thing is that the Dualtron Thunder 2 is cheaper in price. In fact, it's about $2,000 less than the Dualtron X2.
Second it has 1780W more peak power than the mighty Dualtron X2 (8300W).
Dualtron Thunder 2 Disadvantages
There's no water resistance rating, which is disappointing since many of its competitors are.
Dualtron X2 Advantage
Dualtron X2 has the most powerful motor. While it can hit 65 mph/105 kmh in good weather, the Thunder 2 can barely top 56 mph/90 kmh.
Dualtron X2 Disadvantages
The X2 is really heavy. It's one of the heaviest scooters around, weighing almost like a scooter. This makes it impossible to carry by hand and forces you to store it somewhere close to the first floor.
While it has good suspension and big tires, it's still not well suited for off-road terrain and can get damaged when riding on muddy and rocky trails. Also, it is not completely waterproof and it may be damaged to some extent by exposure to water or other dangerous intrusions.
